How Invisalign® Works

Our North San Diego County dentists begin Invisalign® treatment by taking an impression of your teeth. We then produce a precise, three-dimensional digital model from this impression. This model will be used to create a treatment plan featuring a series of Invisalign® aligners — clear, thin mouth guards — that gently shift your teeth into place. The Invisalign® aligners are manufactured from the model and are therefore custom-molded to fit your teeth.

These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you place over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place based on the exact movements planned for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You will periodically receive new sets of aligners until your treatment is complete.

You will wear a clear aligner at all times for the quickest treatment, removing it to eat, brush, and floss. Every two weeks, your aligner will be replaced with one that shifts your teeth slightly further into alignment. Patients are often ready to debut their straight smiles in six months to one year.

Invisalign® invisible braces often work faster than traditional braces because they have the ability to accurately move individual teeth in a computer enhanced sequence.
